you can get rid of some things and, thus, make your relocation a bit less pricey and prevent your new home from being stuffed with useless objects. You are about to move to a new place and you start to slowly pack your stuff bit by bit. Suddenly, yourealise that your possessions are way too much and, therefore, you will need to pay a fortune to the removals company. But I suggest you sit down for a while and ask yourself: Do I really need all these things? The answer to this question will most probably be No! You absolutely do not need paperwork that is more than ten years old or children’s clothes when your children are actually teenagers. Instead,
The first thing you need to do is to decide what deserves to be kept and what you are going to dispose of. The best way to do this is to work on small areas such as your desk or your wardrobe, until you have gone through your whole house or apartment. It is a good idea to prepare three boxes for the things you want to keep, those you want to throw away, and those you want to sell or donate. Remember, the possessions you intend to take with you to your new home have to be absolutely necessary ones. That is, you need to decide what you cannot live without and what you are not ready to leave behind. Things like cutlery, utensils, glasses, etc. will certainly go into the “Keep it” box, for you use them on a regular basis. But now I would like to dwell upon the objects that you will need to dispose of.
Let us start with your desk, drawers, cabinets, and all other places you tend to fill with all kinds of useless knick-knacks. For example, why would you need empty pens?! And I don't mean those elegant metal pens, but the cheap plastic ones that we somehow always forget to dispose of, until we have more than thirty of them scattered all around. Old documents, bills, and other paperwork are also absolutely worthless to transfer to your new home. You can recycle them, instead. Just make sure to burn those that contain personal information. As for the stacks of old magazines – yes, you do not need them, too. You can contact your local used-books stores – they will certainly pay you for your reads, especially if they are popular ones.
You most certainly have a computer, or a television set, or some other electric appliance that is still working, but you do not use it any longer. Of course, you do not need to take those to your new place, so you can try to sell them either on eBay or a local thrift shop. Just make sure to erase all the personal information from the computer hard drives. There are also many non-profit organisations that help families in need. So you can donate your old equipment to one such organisation and, thus, make someone you do not even know happy.
Clothes are usually the hardest to sort, for you probably have so many of them. Make sure to keep only those that you wear regularly. Why would you need something you haven't put on for more than a year?! Not to mention that you certainly have clothes that do not fit you any longer. And what about those that you have bought five years ago, but you haven't even cut their labels? You can either sell those, give them to friends and family members, or donate them to one of the above mentioned non-profit organisations. Just make sure that they are clean, for it would not be nice to hand seemingly fancy clothes with nasty stains on them.
And one last advice on how to keep perfect order in your new home. Make sure that you buy a given object, for you really need it and not just because it is nice and shiny. Cleaning is also an important aspect of domestic maintenance. Make sure to clean your place regularly. If you think, you cannot do it by yourself, you can always resort to the services of a professional cleaning company. Just make sure that your home is always neat and de-cluttered.
